Connecting to the Medicine Woman Archetype, for me, at this time, is about staying the course. Not completely surrendering to the patterns, limiting beliefs, and self-sabotaging practices that move me further away from the inner knowing... that I know.
Food: Bone Broth, chicken and salmon, leafy greans (salads and in smoothies); Warm lemon water and peppermint
Exercise: Walking, yoga (as I continue to heal from my knee injury)
Plant Allies: Chamomile, Pine, Fir
Animal Totems: Horse; Elephant
Pscyhe & Heart: More intra-personal softening and tenderness; cultivation of greater intimacy with those close to me
Healing Modalities: Massage, Journaling, Mantra and Mudra
Spiritual Well-Being: Daily meditation, Prayer, Reading the Bhagvad Gita, Embodied Priestess studies/Ritual
Rhythm of Life that supports you most: Slow pace; gentle and restorative yoga (to help balance the vata imbalance)
Passions that awaken the creative flow and feed your soul: Being hyper conscious of the unconcsious and the unseen, and tapping into the intuitive wisdom that guides me into these spaces; Creating new and (intentionally) meaningful ways to share and engage, in service to all beings.

The Medicine of the Virgo Sun Nourishes and Heals Deep Within Us
Grace ~ Health ~ Vitality
Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.
Each month is steeped in beautiful insights, wisdom and support. Let's Begin...
Month: September Element: Earth
Sign: Virgo Ruling Planet: Mercury/Chiron
Archetype: Medicine Woman Mantra: "I Serve
The Medicine Woman archetype is governed by the zodiac house of Virgo, and holds the essence of the healer; the keeper of healing traditions. The Medicine woman passes down wisdom from generation to generation, and embodies and transmits oral traditions such as myth, song and ritual.
The Medicine Woman as the Messenger of the Gooddess
Reliable . Humble
Patience . Wisdom
Love . Compassion
Level-headed . Authoritative
Clear Boundaries . A Natural Leader
Cold . Critical
Pushy . Righteous
Desire to Control . Inability to Say No
Lack of Self-Love . Forcing Outcomes
This card speaks to introspection. A willingness to be present with oneself, without distraction, and take a long, hard look at the deeper truths that reside within. No frills... and no fuss. The bare naked truth. Before we can be a "messenger of the Goddess" or the "messenger for healing," we must be willing and able to rest deeply in and come face to face with The Truth and reflect that Truth in Love. In this, the healer is born, because the healer understands that he/she is purely a vessel... a "messenger," of Love.

The Fire of the Leo Sun Shines Bright
Tell me, what it is you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
I'M THE WILD BIRD THAT WON'T BE TAMED
THE DESIRE THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO NAME
I'M THE BRANCH THAT BECOMES THE FLAME
WHEN THE FIRE'S DONE BURNING, I REMAIN
Each month is steeped in beautiful insights, wisdom and support. Let's Begin...
Month: August Element: Fire
Sign: Leo Ruling Planet: Sun
Archetype: Wild Woman Mantra: "This is Mel"
The Wild Woman holds the archetypical energy of freedom, wildness and play. This is the house of children, romance, procreation and creative expression. It is the lion-hearted abode of your Being. Picture dancing wildly in the forest, hearing the sounds of nature all around you, serenading you... Calling forth your Wild Soul. Primal and instinctual and uninhibited.
SHE RUNS WITH THE WOLVES
Wild & Free
Passionate & Fiery
Charismatic & Radiant
Refuses to settle for less
Authentic in her creativity
Adventurous . Empathetic
Adventurous . Magnanimous
Strong Will . Determination
Lazy . Selfish
Stubborn . Impatient
Melodramatic . Egotistical
This card invites us to find balance, to work with a patient heart, and to move with grace. This is not an invitation to restrain our creative wild child that tickles us behind the knees, but to, rather, embrace our wild child with a compassionate heart. What a potent combination!
Just as an animal will hide and protect itself when hurting, suffering or abused, so too does the Wild Woman in us shrink back and protect herself from our misalignment. Treat the Wild Woman with great respect and court her with full presence through singing, dancing, drumming, passionate poetry and howling under the moon.

A few weeks ago, I fell on a train to Long Island. And unbeknownst to myself, as I picked myself up and dusted myself off, I had injured my knee. As the day progressed, however, that awareness, indeed, seeped into my consciousness, and when I finally got home that night, it was all about ice, elevation, and the intention of fast healing. An internal dialog began: To see a doctor or not see one? To sub out my classes or grin and bare it? To go into work, or work from home? You know. All the practical things that were necessary and time sensitive.
Then… The Pause…
What is being asked of me? What truly wants to be healed? I reflected on how I injured my knee. I was angry. I acted impulsively because of that anger, which led to the fall. I have been dancing with anger’s grip for quite some time. First I tried to ignore it… then transcend it… now, it’s all about its transformation. Can I tap into its beauty, and power, and great wisdom? Can Anger Heal Me?
The knee. What is she telling me? In the priestess tradition, the knees are associated with humility. “Bless my knees that I may remember humbleness.” The shadow of this involves the inflated ego and arrogance. Light Bulb! The union of anger and arrogance at play … injury…of body, mind and heart.
The Mother Archetype. We are currently in the archetype of the Mother; Sun in Cancer. And I feel her calling me to nourish… to hold… to heal. Deep Healing. The knee and the shadow masculine pulse of anger and arrogance that permeates through me.
Her Mantra is, “I Feel.” And so, in this time of Cancer, I will ask myself, everyday, as part of my Sadhana practice, What am I Feeling? Nothing is off the table. My heart can hold it all, transform it, and empower me to ask myself, again, the next day, and the next, and the next….

Happy New Moon in Taurus!
I WILL NEVER LET YOU GO
I recently came across a newsletter discussing the energy of the Taurus New Moon. In essence, she was communicating that, at this time, in the astrological medicine wheel, it is important for us stay the course. To take a pause in those moments of impulse, and decide whether movement or stillness is the best action. As, sometimes we move, to run away from the discomfort when, perhaps, the real movement takes place in being present with what is... and trust in its own evolution.
A New Moon Invitation: For the next two weeks of the waxing Moon...
Soma (Body): SIT WITH YOURSELF.
For 5 minutes a day (longer if so inclined), sit with yourself. No distractions. No TV. Phone. Music. Food. Book, (you get the drift). Notice if there is discomfort, a desire to want to do something. See if you can sit with that feeling. Notice what it feels like if you allow yourself to just be.
Psyche (Mind): WATCH THE MIND
Are your thoughts a deliberate attempt to distract or avoid something/someone, for example, that will not let you go?
Soul: EMBODIED RITUAL
- Light a candle
- Create an Altar with items that are grounding, earthy, and supportive.
- Place something on the altar that asks you to not let go. Desires your attention.
--- Anything from a checkbook, to a bill, to a picture/item of someone
- Sit with it. Be with it. Allow it to have your attention - even if challenging and uncomfortable.
- Reflect. Meditate. Contemplate.
- Write about your reflections and feelings being with the discomfort
- Read those reflections and feelings everyday until the full moon
- Full Moon, May 29, burn what you wrote, and offer it to Pachamama, Mother Earth!
If you choose to do any/all of it, have fun! There is so much wisdom in play. So play with the new moon energy. Feel her rhythms and subtle pulse. And if you are interested in participating in my new Virtual New Moon Rituals, starting in June, join me. We can journey in ritual play, together!

From Dirt to Divine: Chapter 3
I never liked the month of February. For the longest time, it just felt, to me, like this interim month between the excitement of the New Year and the official March toward Spring.
Not even Valentine’s Day and the prospect of getting a little extra lovin’ from a significant other, ignited any spark of appreciation for February.
I looked to the stars, the cosmos, the ancient traditions, and their mythopoetic stories and, suddenly, February’s big and beautiful heart beat with such passion and poetry, that my big, beautiful heart, followed suit. So let me share the great wonder that is February…
February holds the beautiful astrological sign of Aquarius - The Waterbearer, the Visionary, and Humanitarian to the core. Community and Collaboration are what drives this archetype, and its those who embody her/his essence (not necessarily only those who are born into this sign), who see beyond what IS … to what’s POSSIBLE. They are plugged into a great Conscious Wisdom. Think Einstein!
From a Mythopoetic perspective, it is said that the Aquarius (air sign) became the water-bearer as a result of Zeus, the God of Thunder, taking a young prince, Ganymede, because of his extraordinary beauty, and making him his cup bearer (one who pours all the drinks). After some time, Ganymede was made immortal by Zeus who then transformed him into the constellation of stars. The mortal prince becomes the immortal power looking down to the people from the heavens above. This is the story of our own divinity and capacity to share our wisdom for the greater good of the whole.
IMBOLC, is the first of 3 fire festivals that call in the active power of the sun, and rests in early February. Imbolc is emergence, stirring of the earth, sexual energy awakening, and life force is surging. Imbolc represents the beginning of bloom - the bud beginning to push against the earth, feeling the sun extending its stay one moment at a time! What an extraordinary time! Ah February!

New Moon Ritual: Setting Intention
- An invitation to start fresh
- Call in intentions
- Set the tone and prepare for coming weeks
- Create a Sacred Space
- Create an altar that reflects your intention
This the New Moon in Capricorn, and in the Priestess tradition, it represents the Midwife Archetype
The midwife births ideas into the world. She is strong, open, solid , clear, patient , realistic, ambitious, pragmatic, competent, consistent, dependable, commited, resourceful, grounded, pays full attention, powerfully embodied, never abandons ship, and is grace under pressure.
- Find images/objects that represent the midwife or qualities of the midwife you'd like to call-in.
- Crystals associated with the midwife: citrine, purite, tiger's eye, green jade
- Deities associated with the midwife: Artemis, Athena and Laksmi
- Sit in front of altar and drop into your breath (observe the natural breath)
- Begin to write in journal - a new page symbolizing a fresh new start
- Write your vision for the next moon cycle
- List key intentions you'd like to see manifest ("I AM" STATEMENTS)
- Write a poem or creative story that is reflective of your intentions
- Draw or create a collage of your vision/intentions
Design your intentions in a way that feels the most potent, AND DREAM BIG!
Close with a short Meditation or Prayer or an Inspirational/Aspirational reading.
Keep your creation (writing, drawing, etc.) out on your altar during this moon cycle or in view so you can see it every day.
Make it a point to spend time with it, everyday, as if reinforcing the intention (energy), and maintaining a continual dialog with the universe of your commitment to these intentions.
Best to conduct this ritual within 48 hours of the New Moon!

I recently finished a project that took me on a psyche/soma (mind/body) whirl~wind. If you could imagine a car or a house swirling around the wide and vicious arms of a tornado, knocking against other flailing objects, and replace that car or house with me — so it was.
It didn’t begin that way. No! It began with a “WANT” being manifested. I visioned the job (which led me to this particular project) into manifestation. It was months in the making. And wallah! The universe answered with what looked to be the perfect fulfillment of my “WANT.”
Then this deceptively beautiful eye locked me in her gaze. Before I knew it… I was in the midst of a devastating storm. This storm’s grip was tight and relentless. No matter how much I fought to free myself, Her resolve to engulf me prevailed.
‘Fear and Loathing’ thundered, and opened my Pandora’s box of triggers and old wounds, lighting me up like a pinball machine. ‘Fear and Loathing’ everywhere I turned. I blamed everything - from the Sun to the Moon - for feeling this way. All this work I have been doing on myself - for this? This wasn’t what I asked for? This most definitely wasn’t my ‘WANT.’
Somewhere in the endless cycle of this big fat metaphorical tornado swirl, Mick Jaggers’ voice began his lyric swirl in my brain “You can’t always get what you wa-ant. But if you try sometiiime, You just might fiiind ….You get what you nee-eed!” As if tickled by a little pink feather, I felt an unsuspecting smile deep within. Inspired by the words of a friend, ‘I felt my organs smile.’ I mean, for one, a damn Rolling Stones song woke me up like no meditation practice, yoga posture or lecture could, and two, it gave me permission to relinquish and surrender. Even within the destructive nature of the experience, I found peace. I found the calm within the storm. It was a Deep. Painful. Perfect Acceptance; which then opened me to an even Deeper. More Painful. Perfect Mission of Self Discovery.
It was the transition from the Lady of Balance archetype (sign of Libra) to the Queen of Death Archetype (sign of Scorpio). It was moving me more deeply into the darkness, baring witness to my shadows and being willing to see the dark face of Priestess Tisha.
All the “Work” was preparing me for this storm. This “project.” Growth manifests from discomfort and the willingness to, lovingly, see, embrace, walk into, and surrender to the insights and healing awaiting us in dark phases of our moon.

"If you are grateful for everything,
then what you have is enough"
Greetings Awakened Heart Tribe!
In the early morning hours of Thanksgiving 2016, I find myself wide-eyed and pierced with intense thoughts and focused energy about what is around the corner. What is NEXT! Am I prepared? Am I preparing myself to be prepared?
Wow! Typing those last two sentences proved to be exhausting!
A whiff of the stuffing and french onion soup my mother began cooking earlier, lingers in the air. I feel the breeze from the ceiling fan above me cooling my fingers as I type. I hear the languid sounds of “Soundscapes” almost willing me away from my tippy toes and gently guiding my heels to the ground.
Now both feet are firmly planted. My thoughts have slowed and my energy is all sweetness.
And I am grateful. That, indeed, is enough

Your fragility beckons me
My body immediately releases
I walk with a sense of purpose
Solely to come to you
It is immediate
It is natural
It is wild
How easy it is to lean into you
To demonstrate my fearless response to your call
